Place, Time, and People - Akademie Schloss Solitude, 23-25 November

The symposium 'Place, Time, and People: Biographies and the Production of Places' will be held at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart from 23 to 25 November. Ivan Vladislavic, a former fellow and literary juror of the Akademie, will present a keynote lecture.

Suburbia - An Archeology of the Moment

Ivan Vladislavic is participating in 'Suburbia - An Archeology of the Moment', a conference on the depiction of the suburbs in the art and literature of the English-speaking world. The conference will take place at the University of Toulouse 2 Jean Jaures on 16 and 17 November. He will read from his work, along with Paul Farley and Michael Symmons Roberts, and discuss South African suburbia with Mathilde Rogez.

Readings in Germany and Switzerland

Ivan Vladislavic and translator Thomas Bruckner will be reading from Double Negative, published in German by A1 Verlag, and Exploded View, published by Osburg. Look out for them at the Literaturhaus in Frankfurt on 7 September (details here) and the Literaturhaus in Zurich on 8 September (details here). On 12 September they will appear with legendary percussionist Gunter Baby Sommer at the International Literature Festival in Berlin (details here).

Double Negative shortlisted for Internationaler Literaturpreis

The German edition of Double Negative has been shortlisted for the 2016 Internationaler Literaturpreis of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The award recognizes contemporary work making its first appearance in German and goes to the author and the translator. The novel was translated by Thomas Brückner and published by A1 Verlag in Munich.

Launch of The Folly - Archipelago Books

Archipelago Books will launch the US edition of The Folly at a number of readings and discussions in early October. Ivan Vladislavic will be at the Community Bookstore, Brooklyn (with Katie Kitamura, 5 October), at Book Culture in New York (with Andy Tepper, 6 October), at Bard College (7 October) and at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (with Stephen Clingman, 8 October). Catedra Coetzee - Literaturas del Sur

Chris van Wyk ... in His Own Words at the FLF

On Friday 15 May, Kurt Egelhof will read from the work of Chris van Wyk at the Franschhoek Literary Festival. Join Kurt for a special tribute to this much-loved writer, who was a frequent visitor to the Festival. The reading draws on Chris's wonderfully entertaining memoirs, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy and Eggs to Lay, Chickens to Hatch, and on his poetry, including the uncollected work.
